About Paris

The capital of France is Paris. It is located in the northern part of the country along the Seine River. The population of Paris is approximately 2 million with an outlying area of more than 12 million. It is one of the biggest cities in Europe.

One of the oldest European cities is Paris. It was originally settled around 250 BC by a tribe of Celtic people named the Parisii. The Romans later built a city there called Lutetia in the city which became our city through time as Paris today.

History

In the middle ages, Paris emerged as one of the most significant cities in Europe. Numerous renowned buildings were constructed at this period. The Notre-Dame Cathedral was started in 1163 and took many years to complete.

In 1789 the French Revolution occurred. And it was an event of great importance that changed the government of France. Napoleon, following the revolution, Bonaparte turned into a ruler and introduced numerous monuments to Paris, among them the Arc de Triomphe.

During the 1900s and early 1800s, Paris was the destination of numerous renowned artists. All the painters such as Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent van Gogh resided in the city and Paris is a key hub of art and creativity.

Culture and Tourism

Paris is a city that is very popular among tourists. Every year, there are millions of visitors who are tourists. The city is well known because of fashion, food, art and its romanticism.

There are numerous renowned museums of Paris. The most visited museum in the world is the Louvre. Fashion Week is also held in the city twice a year, and draws designers and media from all over the globe.

The native tongue is French and the monetary unit is the Euro. The best time of year to visit is spring (April to June) or autumn (September to November) when it is warm and pleasant.
